Intending to make things easy for creators while dealing with copyright issues, YouTube has upgraded its Studio Dashboard so that its users can now have a more transparent view of which videos include copyrighted material.
Users may also have the option of quickly removing the offending parts. The tab for videos displays a new column named “Restrictions,” which lets creators immediately see the affected uploads.
Clicking over displays details such as which parts of the video have the offending media, who has initiated the claim, the owner of the copyrighted content, and the action to be taken to fix the strike.
On Friday, Engadget reported that if the claim is regarding music, the user can mute or replace the track.
YouTube in its post on the support page, said that it has added an option of Trim directly on the details page of the Video Copyright. Video creators can crop out copyrighted content, which is claimed by Content ID in the video, and release the claim automatically.
However, the edit endpoints are pre-set, showing where the content is claimed in the video. YouTube is also planning to enable adjustable endpoints.
YouTube said that it is more clear about the copyright content, “now displaying the precise description of the copyrighted work in the takedown notice that is provided by the claimant. In case if there is no information available regarding it, there is also an option to contact our copyright team for a copy of the takedown notice.”
Prominently, there are several copyright disputes among music labels or creators and third-party companies. This is a regular problem faced on this video-sharing platform.
The report added, this new update on YouTube will help creators to keep their videos monetized, but it does not address the underlying issue. YouTube stated that it will bring more updates in the coming year to improve the copyright experience.
